These are the chips of marble, glass, and more that add color to your terrazzo tiles. One of the hardest parts in designing your terrazzo tiles also has something to do with your aggregates. In this article, we will be sharing with you the 3 factors that you need to consider when choosing your aggregates.

Color

The colors that you will choose for your aggregates are important, especially if you will be using it for a flooring like terrazzo. This is the least difficult part when choosing your aggregate. You have to make sure that it will complement the base of your terrazzo mixture.

There are a number of colors that you can choose from depending on what aggregate you will use. If you opt to choose marble chips, the whitest of white and blackest of black are definitely available. Recycled glass produce on the other hand will have a wider selection depending on the colors that are available; and these are usually bolder and more vibrant to create fascinating designs.

Size

Choosing your aggregates’ size is a bit trickier compared to choosing a color. The standard sizes of terrazzo aggregates range from ⅛ inch to ⅜ inch. Depending on your design you can always have aggregates that are larger than ⅜ inch, which are called Venetian aggregates. The size range of these Venetian aggregates are from ½ inch to 1 ⅛ inch

To achieve a more unique terrazzo, we highly suggest that you choose aggregates of different sizes and material. You may even make the aggregates that you want to highlight more prominent and just have the rest as your accent.

Hardness

Determining the hardness of your terrazzo aggregate is probably the most difficult one. The hardness of your aggregates will depend on your chosen aggregate. Being the most difficult, this should be the first thing that you need to do because the available colors and sizes of your aggregates will depend on what type of aggregate you will use.

This is important because you need to avoid pairing very soft and very hard aggregates in a mixture. When you pair aggregates with similar hardness, then the grinding of the surface will be easier.

Terrazzo Australian Marble and our aggregate supplier can help you with your needs.
